National Stationery Week

Today is the last day of National Stationery Week. Its aim is to get Britain writing letters, notes and postcards in place of texts and e-mails. It's also about celebrating one of my absolute favourite things: stationery.

Above is part of my collection of miniature stationery, but I have plenty of life size examples too. My particular weakness is imported sanrio, especially anything emblazoned with TuxedosamPatty & Jimmy or the Little Twin Stars. I've been using a lot of it for Marianna's baby book (more on that some other time) but, in general, I don't have much call to use my stationery these days.

When I was at school I got through mountains of the stuff writing to my dozens of penpals. I swapped coins, stamps, postcards, etc, with people all around the world, and practised my fairly pitiful grasp of various foreign languages. It was great fun and if National Stationery Week can reintroduce people to the joys of snail mail. I'm all for it! My own penpalling has fallen by the wayside over the last few years, but I would like to get back into it. Just on a smaller scale...

Letter writer of the future?

Have you ever had a penpal? And, do you have any recommendations on the best sites for finding one?
