Baby's First Shoes

Baby's First Shoes

On Tuesday we took Marianna to get her first 'proper' pair of shoes. It's goodbye slipper soft pram shoes, and hello first pre-walkers!

This was mostly my mum's idea because a) Marianna is still mostly cruising rather than walking, b), pre-walkers tend to be unspeakably ugly, and c) holy cow, baby shoes are expensive. Still, with nanny paying, I was willing to at least give it a go.

Clarks' Baby Shoes
These are the larger shoes for walkers - I won't subject you to the pink sparkly horrors that made up the bulk of the pre-walker range.

It's really important that children get their feet measured before you start putting them in shoes - the bones in their feet are not yet fully formed so you could unintentionally be setting them up for problems in later life. We went to Clarks where Marianna squirmed, wriggled, but ultimately kept still long enough for us to determine both her feet are size 3G.

My favourite shoes on display were the pair of navy blue patent Mary Janes, mini versions of the pair you can see on the top shelf in the picture above. As my mum's preferred choice of the smaller grey mouse shoes weren't in stock, these were the ones we went for:

Little Jam - Navy patent pre-walker shoes from Clarks

They're called Little Jam, and cost £26. Baby feet grow very quickly so the shoes' expected lifespan is 6 - 8 weeks. (*sigh*) Marianna seems to have taken to them pretty well though, and her balance is noticeably better with them on. Plus they look absolutely adorable!

How old was your baby when you got them their first pair of 'proper' shoes?

My girls were probably around the same age as Marianna when they got their first shoes. They got them from Clarks too :D

  3. Try taking five kids into Clarks and buying them all shoes..... I wince at the thought of how much it used to cost but those days are long since gone. My last baby has just left home to live with his girlfriend...... sigh......

  4. Baby shoes are just too cute! Clarke shoes are great, definitely helped with Isla walking as she had a slight inturned ankle which is fine now. #KCACOLS

  8. I love that type of shoes. Bella and now Sienna have those in different colours. They are so cute! We also like Lelli Kelly shoes. We got some with sparkles and lights! My girls love those! LOL Great tips. I agree that it also important to let them walk without shoes some times. Thanks so much lovely for sharing this at #KCACOLS, :-) x

    1. Lelli Kelly do some super cute shoes! I really love 1970s kids shoes, with buckles and the cut out details on the front. And now, with the internet, there is nothing stopping me tracking them down... :D x
