Happy Birthday Marianna!

Marianna dressed as Alice in Wonderland

My baby is now a whole year old. I can hardly believe it! This time last year she was in intensive care, so tiny and helpless, and today she's crawling about all over the place, singing and clapping, and demanding 'Brrabrry' - her word for Rainbow.

We got her a set of the Rainbow plush toys for her birthday, along with some annuals and a new DVD. My mum was very good to me and went the practical route, restocking our stash of nappies, wetwipes, and SMA. Anthony's mum and dad spoiled her rotten; the Alice in Wonderland dress was also a gift from their trip to Disneyland Paris. It's so adorable!

We had a little party for her this afternoon, with balloons, and cake, and lots of sandwiches. It was nice to catch up with all the family, and Marianna had a great time being the centre of attention. :)

Marianna has taught me so much this year about what's really important. She has made my life better in so many ways, and I'm so proud to be able to say I'm her mum!

My Lily will be 1 at the beginning of February and we're planning a little family get together similar to yours. I also think the practical route is fantastic, Lily has everything she could ever need from Christmas so that is a fab idea!

    1. Thank you! When I was a kid I used to tell everyone that when I grew up I'd have a little baby girl with ginger hair... despite us all being brunettes. It turned out to be true though! :) That's it - she just has so much stuff already! It feels a bit like Toys-r-Us here at the moment. x

British Food

A/N: On a previous blog wrote a whole series of posts on British life, explained for American fiction writers. This week I'm reposting the entry explaining British cuisine... Britain is world renowned for its stodgy, uninspiring cuisine. (Which should explain the deep suspicion Britons have of most foreign cuisine, unless it's been suitably adapted for the British palette.) BBC sitcom Goodness Gracious Me explains it best via the 'going for an English' sketch - a play on the popular British past time of 'going for an Indian (i.e. curry)'. " What's the blandest thing on the menu? " asks one character, later encouraging another, " Just have something a little bland, huh? Waiter, what have you got that is not totally tasteless? " Because, the truth is that traditional British fare is far from a taste sensation for those who haven't been raised on the stuff. Still, read on, and you can judge for yourself... Simply Cook Review

I kept seeing ads and deals for Simply Cook everywhere, so as there was a special offer on at OhMyDosh! Rewards (£3 for the box and £3.50 cashback) I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. What Is It? Recipe kits packed into boxes which fit through your letterbox. The usual price is £9.99 for a kit of 4, with each one serving 2-4 people depending on your serving sizes. All you need to do is buy the fresh ingredients required and follow the instructions. Here is Simply Cook's own helpful diagram: Does It Work? For me, as the person just eating it, it was awesome. Everything tasted great - the mushroom penne in particular was so good I went back for seconds - and I liked that the sauces weren't as rich as Anthony would usually make them. For Anthony, who cooked them, they weren't as impressive. He complained that the food was bland and that it was actually quite a lot of faff, as Lidl didn't stock everything we needed which meant another trip ou
