Mountfield: Dining Room

Building the Mountfield Doll House

Last week I planned out the sitting room, this week it's all about the dining room. The basic layout is for open plan views between the living room, dining room and kitchen. There is no way that it staying, so those big central gaps will be blocked in to just leave the doorways. On the kitchen wall I'm putting a serving hatch in because, well, the demise of the serving hatch has been a sorry loss to us all.

✩ Carpet. I've got a brown one with a little pattern in it from Poppets Dolly Bits.
✩ Curtain Pole.
✩ Curtains.
✩ Wallpaper. My plan is to use wallpaper on the upper halves of the walls, then wood cladding on the bottom half.

Fern wallpaper
I've bought this wallpaper from mmminiatures on eBay.

✩ Dining Table and Chairs. Ideally I'm looking for either a drop leaf or extending table.
✩ Sideboard. To go under the serving hatch.
✩ Fruit Bowl.
Light Fitting. I love those low orange glass shades! I think I might try a mini fish bowl and some glass paint to make my own.
✩ Sunburst Clock.

  1. How cute is this :) Looks awesome!

  2. Oh I love Dolls houses, I had the most gorgeous cottage but it was huge it took up so much room, it has gone to my friends little girl for when she is older, I kept the stables though couldn't bear to part with it all x

    1. If I had the space I'd have so many! I kept my childhood one for ages but it was massive and in the end it went on to another little girl. I'm really lucky at the moment as we have a spare room so it can all go in there :)

  3. What an exciting project! I'm really enjoying following along with it. I love the fern wallpaper and some of the furniture reminds me of my parents' house when I was very little.
    xx Katie.

    1. Thank you! The proof of the pudding will be when it actually goes up ;) I'm having loads of fun planning it out though, I just love the whole look of the 70s - even the totally naff stuff! xx

  4. Oh yes you definitely need an orange glass lampshade, it will match the wallpaper a treat. Sunburst clocks and mirrors always remind me of my childhood. I am loving this project and following along xxx

    1. I've always wanted one in my own house but OH has vetoed the colour orange on principle. Still, in miniature it will be just as fab! :)

  5. He he - how cute are those clocks!? My mum has a grown up dolls house and she loved decorating it :) #homeetc

    1. They are so much fun to do - and so addictive, you never stop buying little bits for them!

  6. What a wonderful idea, we just recently reclaimed my dolls house from my Mum and I spent ages looking at everything again. Yours is just amazing!! X #HomeEtc

    1. It's so much fun, isn't it? Everything's just so tiny! :)

  7. Hello Jess! Thanks so much for linking up with us! My house was hit with the dreaded winter sick bug last week so I’m so behind with my comments. Just catching up now! LOVING this project so much!!!! Especially the idea of half wood clad walls!!! I absolutely can't wait to see this dolls house when it's finished!!! SUCH an awesome project!

PS #HomeEtc is live tomorrow from 6.30am xx

    1. I thought I'd escaped it but it's struck me down this week instead! Aw, thank you! All my stuff for the outside of the house arrived today, so I can actually begin to make a start on it now. I've bought this brick compound stuff which is meant to look like real brickwork... it just depends on my application! x

The unwieldy size of my bookmark folders convinced me I needed a reference post for online magazine archives. Or, more accurately, free online magazine archives. Simply Cook Review

I kept seeing ads and deals for Simply Cook everywhere, so as there was a special offer on at OhMyDosh! Rewards (£3 for the box and £3.50 cashback) I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. What Is It? Recipe kits packed into boxes which fit through your letterbox. The usual price is £9.99 for a kit of 4, with each one serving 2-4 people depending on your serving sizes. All you need to do is buy the fresh ingredients required and follow the instructions. Here is Simply Cook's own helpful diagram: Does It Work? For me, as the person just eating it, it was awesome. Everything tasted great - the mushroom penne in particular was so good I went back for seconds - and I liked that the sauces weren't as rich as Anthony would usually make them. For Anthony, who cooked them, they weren't as impressive. He complained that the food was bland and that it was actually quite a lot of faff, as Lidl didn't stock everything we needed which meant another trip ou

Guide to Sindy Houses

As far as 1/6 scale doll houses go, Sindy's Super Home is fairly ubiquitous. It's a good size, it isn't made out of pink plastic, and you can pick one up on eBay for under £50. But the Super Home wasn't Sindy's only foray into property ownership. In fact she had numerous different houses, caravans, stables, and other buildings... 1970 Sindy's Town House Though this was advertised in the 1970 brochure, it doesn't seem to have ever made it into production. 1973 Sindy's House This one apparently made it into limited production, but was flimsy and was soon replaced. According to the Sindy Museum , it had four rooms, decorated as a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge. You can see part of the house used for photos in the 1974 catalogue . 1974 Sindy's House Existing examples appear to have been competition wins, so it is unlikely this house was ever on general sale. You can read more about it HERE . 1975

It had blue and red lights, and appeared to be moving towards them. They watched for a few minutes and the next day reported the sighting to UK UFO.
