It's another Monday, another magazine scan post. This week we have an issue of My Guy magazine from October 14th, 1979.

This issue has some weird stories. First up, a dating agency run by a guy who gives out inappropriate matches to girls he fancies himself (he looks better by comparison) but gets his comeuppance, then a girl from a sink estate who attracts an Arab prince who wants to make her his wife. We learn that Boney M were mistaken for a Sultan with his harem in Norway (apparently), and the letter page reaches whole new levels of naivety with:
"I am only 13, but I am in love with a 21-year-old married man and he loves me. We have to keep it a secret so his wife doesn't find out. The problem is I'm frightened he might ask me to have sex. What do I do?"
You can read the full issue for yourself in PDF format HERE.

I think I bought this magazine back in the 90s. It had those photo story panels which I enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteThe photo stories were the best, they should really bring them back! :)
DeleteOh wow, this is old school! I was 7 months old when this published. It's crazy how different the fashion was! x
ReplyDeleteThe 'All the boys love a nice girl' fashion feature is just *so* 70s. I can't imagine many girls today going for shapeless brown floral frocks :)
DeleteOMG it isn't until you look at things like this that you realise just how far the world has moved on. Just brilliant. Where did you find it?
ReplyDeleteI bought a lot of about 20 or so on eBay a while back, so I'm slowly scanning them in before selling them back on. I love how a lot of the scenarios just wouldn't happen today - like waiting at the phone box for a boy to ring, or having to stay in all night by the landline!
DeleteI probably pored over every word of this back in the day! I say bring back shapeless brown floral frocks :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, Laura Ashley is due a comeback, methinks! I do love the shoes in that item too, they're so cute.
Delete"Crazee" About Him! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd only 16p. Goodness. Remember when mags were that cheap? Love it!
#anythinggoes
I've got a few mags from the 20s and 30s too and the price is like 2p or something! :)
DeleteI feel really old for recognising the cover guy as Gary Tibbs from Roxy Music and Adam & The Ants! :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that!!
