One of my favourite TV specials growing up was Commercial Breakdown with Jasper Carrott, (they never seem to re-run any of his stuff, I don't know why - maybe it hasn't dated well?). Anyway, the point of the show was to introduce the British public to silly foreign adverts. Because it aired on the BBC, a publicly funded institution banned from carrying advertising, home grown ads were a no go.
But, really, that was where the true comedy gold was. Just look at this:
And definitely this:
My all time favourite funny ad though is actually a spoof of the subject that seems to make up 90% of modern British ad breaks: life insurance / funeral cover. Here, Kevin Bishop plays Michael Aspel, asking viewers if they're 'somewhere between the age of sixty and dead?' It's so awful - but the worse the actual ads get, the more you think it won't be long until this becomes reality!

It was a quiet one last week, I'm guessing because it was Independence Day weekend. But when it results in set ups as pretty as this one by Penny, who am I to complain? :)
