In 2002 Virgin Mobile was criticised for an ad campaign starring Wyclef Jean. In the first TV spot Wyclef was enjoying a night out when he signed an autograph for an unfortunate looking fan - and soon found himself contracted to be her personal slave. The second spot featured Wyclef's escape from his new trailer park home... Only to run into the sheriff and end up avoiding the soap in the prison showers.
Although a number of complaints were received by the ITC - Independent Television Commission - it was ruled that the joke was unlikely to cause widespread offence.
