101st Birthday!

Jane Saunders (Manager), Cllr Phyllis Roberts (Mayor of Blaenavon), Sylvia Howells (Birthday Girl!), Me. On October 19th I attended a really special occasion - the 101st birthday of Blaenavon born and bred Sylvia Howells. Mrs Howells is a resident at Arthur Jenkins Care Home which hosted a lovely birthday party, complete with singer to serenade her! The South Wales Argus covered the story on October 24th : A special party was held at a Blaenavon residential home to celebrate the birthday of one of its oldest residents. Sylvia Howells turned 101 on Thursday, October 19 and was joined by her family and friends as well as two mayors and staff from the Arthur Jenkins Care Home for her party. Blaenavon-born and bred, Mrs Howells has lived at the home since 2009 and she shared her secret of longevity.  “I think it’s keeping busy and doing plenty of exercise,” said Mrs Howells. The 101-year-old was delighted that the Hafod Care staff threw her a party, which included a special c

S H Figuarts

S.H. Figuarts make a huge range of highly articulated 1/12 scale action figures. Aside from the base bodies, the figures have sculpted plastic clothing and hair. Most of them are based on anime or cartoon properties - Dragonball Z, Naruto, Sailor Moon, etc, etc - but there are also lots of celebrity likeness sculpts from characters in films and TV shows. The figures are generally true to scale, hovering about the 6" mark. DC Universe Alongside various permanently cowled Batmen and other masked characters, Figuarts offer Suicide Squad Harley Quinn and Joker, The Dark Knight Joker, Deadshot, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Marvel A lot of their Marvel characters are permanently masked, but there are still plenty with heads ripe for the picking... Thor, Dr. Strange, Tony Stark 'Iron Man', Hawkeye, Star-Lord, Star Wars ☆  Prequel Movies: Qui Gon Jinn, Padawan Obi Wan Kenobi, Padawan Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Darth Maul , Queen Amid

Storm Collectibles

Storm Collectibles produce a range of sports and video game action figures in roughly 1/12 scale - they're actually about 7" tall so a little oversized, but not outrageously so. They're typical action figures in that all the clothing is sculpted plastic So far they've done the Mortal Kombat figures Scorpion , Sub Zero, Reptile, and Shao Khan, as well as Heihachi Mishima from Tekken 7. Their biggest line is Street Fighter V with M. Bison, Ryu, Zangief, Alex, Ken, Chun-Li, and Gouki. My favourite is the upcoming Mike Tyson figure. He even has fabric shorts! Heidi Ott 12th Scale Dolls

When I started getting into the hobby Heidi Ott was pretty much it as far as more affordable articulated 1/12 scale dolls went. They came in 4 basic designs: young and older woman, and young and older man (the Caucasian types came with blue or brown painted eyes, and there was a Black version of the younger models). Sometimes the male dolls have flocked hair and / or facial hair, while the women come bald or with tiny little wigs . As the dolls become harder to find the prices only increase - you'll be lucky to find a basic undressed figure for less than £30, and the dressed ones will set you back at least £50+. In an age when you can get a Figma type doll for £4, as cute and well designed as these are, you'll probably only want to pick them up if you happen across them going cheaply. Heidi Ott also made smaller dolls in 1/12 scale meant to be teenagers, kids and babies - they have cloth bodies and plastic limbs: There were lots of dressed dolls released, primar
