Look Cool This Summer with House of Fraser

House of Fraser has an awesome selection of children's summer clothing this year, especially for those like myself who are always looking for that retro aesthetic. Peter Pan collars, t-bar shoes, full skirts - just like in all those beautiful vintage kids' illustrations.

So, when I was asked if I fancied writing about the range I was hit by the creative urge for what feels like the first time in forever, and decided to have a go at replicating a few of my favourite pieces in pencil and ink...

Babies, for all they look adorable from a distance, are fairly disgusting creatures when you get up close. That's why they spend most of their life in easy care, easy off babygros. But, even babies need to look their best sometimes, and House of Fraser has some gorgeous little outfits - like the Ralph Lauren Floral Stripe Dress above, currently priced at £29.50. It's so bright and summery, and also boasts machine wash care instructions.

Swedish brand Polarn O. Pyret specialise in fun and colourful children's clothing, and their yellow Polka Dot Dress (currently £14) was my first pick for nursery age children. I just love bright colours on young children - it projects that carefree innocence childhood should be all about.

My favourite piece for infant age children is another fab polkadot dress, this one from UK based brand, Yumi, priced at £21. This sleeveless dress has an elasticated waist, contrasting white collar, and gold floral button details. If you aren't feeling the green, you can also get it in red.

We're talking junior school children now, and just check out this pretty Little MisDress Girls Spot Print Dress with Big Bow on Waist, currently priced at £27. Little MisDress is the junior range from Little Mistress, and is well worth taking a look at.

For this sketch I teamed the dress with a pair of Angel's Face Girls Glitter Ballet Pump with Ribbon Bow (£34). This style comes in five colours: red, blue, sliver, gold, and baby pink.

For tweenagers, I went back to the Ralph Lauren selection. This Sleeveless Dress with Striped Bow Waist (£52.50) effortlessly combines classy sophistication with a little childlike fun. The yellow ribbon belt really makes such an impact, but you could easily team with a white ribbon for a full nautical look.

In colder weather you could wear a light long sleeved top underneath, making the dress even more versatile.

Lastly, I chose my favourite outfit for teenage girls. This is another Yumi dress, the Yumi Girls Girls Cloud Print Day Dress, which is currently listed at £31. I love the colours in this, it makes me think of my own childhood in the late 1980s and early 1990s, surrounded by Keypers, Care Bears, and My Little Pony. Pastel for the win!

For my sketch, I teamed with the dress with a few simple accessories like a Mint Velvet Silver Simple Knot Necklace (£19.00), hair clip, and a pair of tassel earrings.

    1. When I was pregnant they couldn't tell if I was carrying a boy or a girl, so I used to spend loads of time looking at mid century modern and other retro kids clothing... I remember thinking, omg, if I have a girl I am going to be skint forever.

      I wasn't wrong. xD
