Haven't done one of these for a while! Song titles link to YouTube, artist names link to their Wiki page for ease of trivia gathering. I'm mostly listening to new wave and synthpop at the moment. It shows.

1: A Song You Like With A Colour In The Title
99 Red Balloons by Nena. Great song, even if the original (99 Luftballoons) made no mention of their being red...

2: A Song You Like With A Number In The Title

3: A Song That Reminds You Of Summertime

4: A Song That Reminds You Of Someone You Would Rather Forget About

5: A song that needs to be played LOUD
To Cut A Long Story Short - Spandau Ballet. Whenever it comes on the first thing I do is crank up the volume.

6: A Song That Makes You Want To Dance
Safety Dance by Men Without Hats, even if pogoing isn't really my style.

7: A Song To Drive To

8: A Song About Drugs or Alcohol

9: A Song That Makes You Happy

10: A Song That Makes You Sad
Making Plans For Nigel by XTC. 'He has his future in British Steel.' Poor Nigel.

11: A Song That You Never Get Tired Of

12: A Love Song

13: One Of Your Favourite 80’s Songs

14: A Song That You Would Love Played At Your Wedding

15: A Song That Is A Cover By Another Artist

16: A Song That Reminds You Of Your Partner
Drowned Lovers by Kate Rusby. Otherwise known as The Mother's Malison or Clyde's Water, this Scottish folk song tells the tragic tale of lovers who are thwarted by their parents. Anyway, there's a line that goes 'nimbly, nimbly rose she up', for some reason it sounded like 'rambly, rambly' to me. Now, whenever A is telling a particularly rambling tale I think of the song, and vice versa!

17: A Song You Would Sing On Karaoke

18: A Song From The Year That You Were Born
I Should Be So Lucky by Kylie Minogue. Hit #1 in 1988.

19: A Song That Makes You Think About Life

20: A Song That Has Many Meanings To You

21: A Favourite Song With A Person’s Name In The Title

22: A Song That Moves You Forward
Silver Moon by Donkeyboy. It's a song that makes me want to get things done.

23: A Song That You Think Everybody Should Listen To
Messiah by Prides. They're an amazing Scottish synthpop band set to finally release their debut LP in July. I plan on getting the vinyl, which will make it the first album I've bought in physical form for about three years.

24: A Song By One Of Your Favourite Bands

25: A Song You Know All The Words To

26: A Song That Makes You Want To Fall In Love
Be Mine by Robyn. So we could break up and justify me playing this over and over and over again. I once played it for 8 hours straight without the slightest provocation.

27: A Song That Breaks Your Heart
Everything You Want by Vertical Horizon. 'He's everything you want, He's everything you need ... He says all the right things, At exactly the right time, But he means nothing to you, And you don't know why.' The soundtrack to a million thwarted romances.

28: A Song By An Artist With A Voice That You Love
There's More To Love (Than Boy Meets Girl) by The Communards. Jimmy Somerville is awesome. Richard Coles, the other half of The Communards, is the UK's top media vicar these days.

29: A Song That You Remember From Your Childhood
Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. The 'Annihilation' mix used to scare me to death with the 'if any member of the family should die whilst in the shelter (put them outside, but remember to tag them first for identification purposes)' line from Protect and Survive - I was always primed to be anti-nuclear, I think!

30: A Song That Reminds You Of Yourself
Everyone says 'After You Get What You Want You Don't Want It' (Irving Berlin) is my song! There's a great version on a Hits of the 1920s CD I had in my teens, and my family were all convinced it could have been written for me. Though it might just have been a ploy to try and get me to stop playing it...

Some interesting choices here...Some I've never even heard of too. Spandau Ballet is definitely one to turn up loud.
ReplyDeleteHehe, thanks! And, yeah, you've got to love a bit of Spandau. :D
DeleteI love this post... so much so that I am going to do my own next week and tell everyone that your post was inspiration (I will link to your blog and this post). I have to be honest and say I know all of about 4 of those songs you mentioned... It just goes to show what eclectic tastes in music we all have. Thank you for linking up with #FlashbackFriday I have enjoyed reading this post :) X
ReplyDeleteOoh, I can't wait to read it! That's what I love about music really, is that there is always new stuff to discover (good and bad, lol). My only problem these days is that I hear something I like... then can't remember what it's called, who it's by, or how it went. :D
DeleteYou are not alone.. I thought I was the only one :) I am currently writing the post so I will tweet you when it is ready for you to have a read - ps don't judge me on taste of music (some of it is rather dodgy and very cheesy :D ) xx
DeletePlease do! Hehe, I love a bit of cheese - I think the only genre I really struggle with is jazz. Guess what my partner's fave genre is? ;) xx
DeleteOk, can I do my own one of these if I give you a shout out? I love this post so much! I need to listen to some of these tunes though, some I've never heard of! x
ReplyDeleteOf course! I'd love to read it! :) x
DeleteFab list! I've got two tribes stuck in my head now. Some new ones for me to check out as well. Music is the best! #TheBabyFormula
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat a good playlist!
DeleteI don't know how you do this! These posts always fill me with, wow I'd never have thought of a song/movie/etc for that, but you ALWAYS manage!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing #TheBabyFormula
Hehe, mostly by having them in drafts by weeks while I wait for inspiration! :D x
DeleteThanks, these are really helpful things for me!
