Hits of 2013

What I'm Listening To

My top ten favourite tracks of 2013.

Thrift Shop - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Released in 2012, Thrift Shop topped the UK charts in February 2013. It's the theme song of cheapskates the world over! :)

Bella Vita - DJ Antoine

I don't know why DJ Antoine isn't better known in the UK, he's like the king of commercial dance. Bella Vita is one of my faves and reached #1 in Switzerland and Slovakia, as well as top 20 in Germany and Austria.

Gentleman - Psy

Psy's follow up to Gangnam Style was another huge helping of absurd catchiness!

Young and Beautiful - Lana Del Ray

I love this track, it's kind of timeless in its haunting quality and proved a perfect fit for the Great Gatsby soundtrack.

Bang Bang - will.i.am

This was the track that first introduced me to electro swing. I am forever grateful!

A Little Party Never Killed Nobody - Fergie

I'm not saying I was a big fan of the 2013 Great Gatsby soundtrack but...

Crazy in Love - Emeli Sandé with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra

#NoRegrets. From here I found Postmodern Jukebox and a whole new reason to always have a YouTube tab open.

Wake Me Up - Avicii

This was a #1 for Avicii in 22 countries, shifting over 11 million copies worldwide.

Talk Dirty - Jason Derulo ft. 2 Chainz

Jason Derulo really knocked it out of the park with this one, and also paved the way for the awesome Cody Carson cover a few months later.

Pompeii - Bastille

This is a song I can listen to over and over again, it's just beautifully put together.

Free Magazine Scans

Click the pictures below to find full cover guides to various teen magazines (primarily collated to make scale miniature magazine covers but I figure they'll also be useful for collectors and anyone into media history) and scans from my own magazine collection. I've also got a couple of kids' books I didn't want to part with - The Squirrel and Little Owl Book of Pets . The unwieldy size of my bookmark folders convinced me I needed a reference post for online magazine archives. Or, more accurately, free online magazine archives. Here are over 200 places offering completely free fabric samples in the UK:

Simply Cook Review

I kept seeing ads and deals for Simply Cook everywhere, so as there was a special offer on at OhMyDosh! Rewards (£3 for the box and £3.50 cashback) I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. What Is It? Recipe kits packed into boxes which fit through your letterbox. The usual price is £9.99 for a kit of 4, with each one serving 2-4 people depending on your serving sizes. All you need to do is buy the fresh ingredients required and follow the instructions. Here is Simply Cook's own helpful diagram: Does It Work? For me, as the person just eating it, it was awesome. Everything tasted great - the mushroom penne in particular was so good I went back for seconds - and I liked that the sauces weren't as rich as Anthony would usually make them. For Anthony, who cooked them, they weren't as impressive. He complained that the food was bland and that it was actually quite a lot of faff, as Lidl didn't stock everything we needed which meant another trip ou
