We went to the Cwmbran Community Council awards evening on Friday and had a really lovely time! The food was amazing, and it was uplifting to hear about some of the voluntary work and selflessness that is happening in our community every single day. There was also a caricaturist making the rounds of the table who definitely captured our best sides. xD
In the run up I was having some major anxiety but, a few hot flushes aside, it was fine. Anthony had booked a room for us to stay overnight, and it was just really nice to spend some time together more than anything. Obviously we're still seeing each other a lot throughout the week, but it's not the same as actually living together and having some space to yourselves.
Workwise, I spent way too much time making miniature VHS covers. This sounds so simple and like it should have taken a couple of hours, tops. Sadly this wasn't the case! In the end I went with the tapes from the Zuru Retro series for sizing, which meant lots of moving elements around to make the covers work. I ended up with two sets: Kids' Movies (aka Disney classics) and Christmas. I definitely want to add a horror film set, but that's a future project.
The rest of the week I spent working on a book idea - Murder and Mayhem on the Worst Street in London. AKA, murders on Dorset Street (later known as Duval Street). The most (in)famous is Mary Jane Kelly, the last of the 'canonical' Jack the Ripper murders, but as Dorset Street was mostly common lodging houses and cheap rented rooms, there was always something going down. So far I've got everything from domestics turned fatal, to infanticide, to gang violence, to a woman having her nose bitten off... Hopefully I can finish it off quickly and get it up in e-format.
